London shares fall at open

London stocks fell at the start of trade on Friday in the wake of overnight losses on Wall Street amid mixed data on US housing and the jobs market.

The FTSE 100 index shed 0.31 percent to 5,530.03 points.

Mining stocks were the biggest fallers, with Kazakhmys down 2.73 percent at 1,389 pence, Anglo American 2.33 percent lower at 2,491 and Antofagasta losing 2.23 percent to 1,184.
