Newspaper publisher Journal Register names former Synarc CFO as its chief financial officer

Journal Register Co., publisher of the New Haven Register in Connecticut and other newspapers, said Thursday it named the former chief financial officer of medical services company Synarc Inc. as its CFO.

Jeff Bairstow, 51, also served as the head of global imaging for Synarc. He has worked as the CFO for Dendrite, a pharmaceutical sales company, as well.

Journal Register owns 19 daily newspapers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Connecticut, Ohio and New York. It emerged from bankruptcy protection in August, having reached an agreement with key lenders before its Chapter 11 filing just six months earlier. That plan canceled its stock and made Journal Register a private company controlled by its lenders, including JPMorgan Chase.

Bairstow replaces John O. Strek of the financial restructuring firm Conway, Del Genio, Gries & Co. LLC. He had served as acting CFO since November 2008.
