Gannett CEO's pay rose 41 percent in 2009

Newspaper publisher Gannett increased its CEO pay to $4.4 million in 2009

An Associated Press analysis shows Gannett Co., the biggest newspaper publisher in the U.S., increased its CEO's pay package by nearly 41 percent last year.

Gannett gave CEO Craig Dubow compensation valued at roughly $4.4 million, up from $3.1 million the year before. However, that is still far below the $7.4 million he got in 2007.

Last year, Dubow's base pay fell 19 percent to about $942,000. But he got a bonus of about $1.5 million, up 66 percent from 2008.

The AP's executive pay calculation, based on a regulatory filing, aims to isolate the value the company's board placed on a CEO's compensation package. The figure includes salary, bonus, incentives, perks and the estimated value of stock options and awards.
